Jaejun Lee

Jaejun Lee is a Korean ceramicist based in Cardiff, Cymru

Lee established his studio in Cardiff in 2018 after completing an MFA at Seoul National University, South Korea. He has exhibited widely and already has numerous awards to his name, with his sublime porcelain pieces garnering serious attention world-wide. Recent exhibitions include, Embracing the Blue, New Craftsman Gallery, Collect 2022, Somerset House, London and Impossibility of Repetition, Make, Hauser and Wirth, Somerset, UK

He specialises in porcelain using throwing techniques to create both fine art pieces and functional tableware. A main strand in his practice is his contribution to the centuries-old canon of the Korean Moon Jar - here we see calm sublimity, masterful simplicity mixed with a modern 21st century sensibility

He is meticulous in his practice and in his desire to communicate a message of both functionality and beauty. Feeling the surface of his pots, his intention and attitude is clear - material and the sense of touch are as important to him as visual beauty

Mae Jaejun Lee yn seramegydd o Corea sydd yn byw a gweithio yng Nghaerdydd, Cymru

Sefydlodd Lee ei stiwdio yng Nghaerdydd yn 2018 ar ôl cwblhau MFA ym Mhrifysgol Genedlaethol Seoul, De Corea. Mae wedi arddangos yn eang, mae ganddo nifer o wobrau i’w enw ac mae ei ddarnau porslen cain wedi denu sylw mawr ledled y byd

Mae'n arbenigo mewn porslen gan ddefnyddio techneg taflu ar yr olwyn i greu darnau celfyddyd gain a llestri bwrdd. Un o brif gyfres ei waith yw ei gyfraniad i ganon hynafol y Moon Jar Coreaidd - yr arucheledd tawel, y symlrwydd meistrolgar ond eto gyda'i ymwybyddiaeth modern yr 21ain ganrif

Mae'n fanwl iawn yn ei waith ac yn ei awydd i gyfleu neges o ymarferoldeb a harddwch trwy ei serameg. Gan deimlo arwyneb ei botiau, mae ei fwriad a'i agwedd yn glir - ei ystyriaeth o'r defnyddiau a phwysigrwydd teimlad y cyffwrdd sydd yr un mor bwysig iddo â'r harddwch gweledol
