TEN is pleased to present liminal strucures a 2 person exhibition exploring the intersection of 2 states of being. the exhibition will introduce laura edmunds to the gallery, who will exhibit alongside ceramicist sophie southgate

laura edmunds is a welsh artist from cardiff, wales + is currently based at KARST studios in plymouth. edmunds is a lecturer at plymouth college of art and the PAC home administrator at plymouth arts centre. in 2014 edmunds returned to the united kingdom from australia, where she had completed an MFA with distinction at curtin university, WA

edmunds is concerned with the temporal, ambiguity + melancholy and this manifests itself through approaches to drawing. reflecting on the idea that we attempt to control existence by creating structures + boundaries, she is concerned with alluding to this collective inner turmoil through drawing. her work is concerned with temporality, the body + bodies and the discreet. considering the drawn mark as a method of searching for meaning, she is concerned with the ability to communicate liminality, ambiguity + ambivalence

sophie southgate creates bespoke handcrafted ceramic sculptures for the home. every one of these affordable-luxury ornamental objects  is unique, taking days to refine and finish to the highest standard. now based in orpington kent, working with clay and plaster has become integral to her way of life

sophie’s practice is an on-going exploration of the object and the vessel, in both the contexts of sculpture and functional ceramics. her work moves between the boundaries of art and design, challenging our preconceptions and understanding of contemporary ceramics. she takes inspiration from the landscape, paring it back to abstract interpretations of space through basic geometric forms. she utilises colour and negative space to engage the audience and play with perception. her work is ambiguous in nature and open to interpretation, raising questions about material and process
