Mae TEN yn falch o gyflwyno arddangosfa unigol o gerfluniau newydd gan Carwyn Evans RCA

Mae teitl yr arddangosfa ‘Peth’na’ — yn gweithio fel angor gysyniadol ar gyfer y corff hwn o waith. Drwy ddefnyddio ymadrodd sy’n gwrthod pendantrwydd, mae Evans yn amlygu amwysedd gynhenid gwrthrychau a all feddiannu sawl cyflwr ar unwaith. Drwy esthetig syml o bren, persbecs, rwber, gwrthrychau a ganfuwyd a clai a gloddiwyd o’i ‘famwlad’ yng Ngheredigion, mae Evans yn creu ‘hybridau’ cerflunol sy’n bodoli fel ‘hwn’ a'r ‘llall' ar yr un pryd

Mae gwaith ehangach Carwyn yn aml yn archwilio erydu, gan osod ei gerfluniau fel atgof o dirwedd mewn stâd o newid barhaus. Drwy dynnu delweddau a deunyddiau - sy’n aml yn tarddu o gyd-destunau ymarferol neu amaethyddol - yn ôl i’w hanfod minimalaidd, mae’n cyfleu gwagle corfforol a diwylliannol, sy’n adlewyrchu y weithred o adael a’r pellter dilynol rhwng unigolyn a’i dreftadaeth

Yn adnabyddus am strwythurau a chydosodiadau minimalaidd sy'n pontio rhwng y llenyddol, diwylliannol a bywgraffyddol, mae Evans yn archwilio'r berthynas gymhleth rhwng dynoliaeth, y tir a'r hunan. Mae'r defnydd rheolaidd o glai o fferm ei dad yn arbennig o deimladwy; mae'n ddeunydd wedi'i ddadwreiddio - wedi'i gloddio o'i darddiad, ei gludo, a'i ail-lunio ar gyfer cyfyngiadau oriel. Yn hyn, adlewyrchir hanes mudo Evans ei hun: o gefn gwlad Cymru i'r brifddinas, ac yna i Lundain. Mae ei waith yn siarad am ganlyniadau'r ymadawiad hwnnw, a'r gwagle hynny a grëwyd ac a adawyd yn ei sgil - y corfforol, meddyliol, personol, diwylliannol

Mae gwaith Evans yn dathlu'r deunydd - boed yn naturiol, wedi'i ddarganfod, wedi'i grefftio â llaw, neu'n ddiwydiannol. Er bod rhai elfennau'n cael eu gweithio'n fanwl, mae eraill yn cael eu gadael yn eu cyflwr crai. Mae'r gwrthrychau adeiledig ac a adferwyd hyn yn cael eu hailddefnyddio i ffurfiau newydd, ond nid yw'r deunyddiau byth yn colli eu hanes gwreiddiol. Drwy broses fanwl o ddethol a chydosod, mae cyffyrddiad Midas Evans yn gorchuddio pob darn â thynerwch tawel, gan gydbwyso harddwch ffurf ag ystyr diwylliannol dwfn

TEN presents a solo exhibition of new sculpture by Carwyn Evans RCA

The exhibition title ‘Peth’na’ - a colloquial Welsh placeholder akin to ‘thingamajig’ or ‘whatsit’ — serves as a conceptual anchor for this body of work. By using a phrase that refuses specificity, Evans highlights the inherent ambiguity of objects that occupy multiple states at once. Through a pared-down aesthetic of wood, perspex, rubber, found objects and clay unearthed from his Ceredigion 'homeland', Evans creates sculptural ‘hybrids’, existing as both ‘this’ and ‘that’ simultaneously

Evans’s wider practice frequently interrogates erosions, positioning his sculptures as mementos of a landscape in flux. By stripping imagery and materials - often sourced from functional or agricultural contexts - down to their minimalist essence, he conveys physical and cultural voids that reflect on the act of leaving and the subsequent distance between a person and their heritage

Known for minimalist structures and assemblages that bridge literary, cultural, and biographical spheres, Evans explores the intricate relationship between humanity, the land, and the self. The recurring use of clay from his father’s farm is particularly poignant; it is a material uprooted — dug from its origin, transported, and reshaped for the confines of a gallery. In this, we find Evans’s own history of migration: from rural Cymru to the capital, and then to London. His work speaks to the consequences of that departure, articulating the physical, cultural, and personal voids left in its wake

Evans’s work celebrates the material — whether natural, found, handcrafted, or industrial. While some elements are meticulously worked, others are left in their raw state. These constructed and reclaimed objects are reappropriated into new forms, yet the materials never lose the weight of their origins. Through a precise process of selection and assembly, Evans’s Midas touch cloaks every piece with a quiet tenderness, balancing beauty of form with profound cultural resonance

  • ‘Rwyf wrth fy modd yn cyflwyno fy arddangosfa unigol ddiweddara’, Peth’na, yn TEN. Mae paratoi ar gyfer yr arddangosfa hon wedi bod yn gyfnod o lawenydd creadigol; gyda’r broses o greu’r gweithiau wedi bod yn chwareus , ac rwy’n gobeithio bod y naws chwareus yma a’r adleisiau barddonol yn dod drwodd. Alla i ddim aros i rannu’r gwaith gyda chi

I am delighted to be exhibiting my latest solo show ‘Peth’na’ at TEN. Preparing for this exhibition has been a period of creative joy; the process of making these new works has been playful and I hope this sense of playfulness and poetic resonance carries through. I can’t wait to share the work with you’  - Carwyn Evans

“Carwyn Evans’ skill is in making work that can transcend one set of meanings, opening it out to encompass us all” — Sean Edwards

His first solo exhibition 'That morning he watched the dawn' took place at Oriel Davies Gallery, Newtown which contained work that reflects Evans’ personal experiences while exploring broader social and political shifts in rural Wales. Much of his practice has focused on his ‘migration’ from an upbringing in rural Ceredigion to the Welsh capital Cardiff in order to pursue an artistic career. Reflecting on the impact of his leaving, the subsequent void left behind [both physical + cultural], and the consequence of change are all themes explored in his work. At the same time, a recent photographic series gives voice to individuals who have recently migrated and relocated to the artist’s homeland, to allow room for an alternative perspective. Evans represents these concerns using a pared down sculptural aesthetic, working with both existing and specifically produced [and often highly crafted] objects and images.
