CYFRES O WEITHIAU PREN, CLAI TSEINA A PHERSBECS A GREWYD TRA O DAN GYFNOD CYFYNGIAD Y PANDEMIG

A SERIES OF WORKS IN WOOD, BONE CHINA AND PERSPEX CREATED DURING THE COVID19 PANDEMIC LOCKDOWN

‘Mae'r casgliad yma o waith wedi’u greu o ddeunyddiau megis pren, clai tseina a phersbecs - yn ddilyniant ar nifer o themâu sydd o ddiddordeb i mi. Doedd y cyfnod clo ddim mor gynhyrchiol ag oeddwn wedi gobeithio - lot o asesu beunyddiol mewn cyfnod o hunan-amheuaeth a cholli hyder fel artist. Yn ffodus, roedd cynllun 'Crate' [arddangosfa Aeaf TEN] yn ffordd o graffu'r meddwl wrth geisio portreu - mewn ffordd haniaethol - rhythm troi tudalennau mewn llyfr neu dal yr eiliad o weld dudalen yn gael ei droi - gyda maint pob cydran yn seiliedig ar un arwyneb o'r blwch. Caiff rhain eu hymestyn ymhellach mewn arlliwiau tebyg a rhai newydd. Does dim byd cweit fel derbyn briff i ddod allan o rych.

Daw teitlau'r gweithiau o sbarion clai tseina o gân enwog Ryan a Ronnie 'Ti a Dy Ddoniau' - atgof clir i ni gyd ar chwilfrydedd dawn eraill. Yn y casgliad newydd yma, dyma castio darnau persbecs penodol mewn lliw melyn-binc tryloyw. A gyda sbarion cylchog eraill, dyma gosod disgiau persbecs gwyn o'u blaen fel bod y cefndir yn ymddangos fel eu bod yn torri'n rhydd o ffurf y cylch... yn ymestyn allan i rywbeth arall. Daw'r teitl 'gwlith' a pherthnasedd newydd yn y cyfnod yma... y disgwyl am haul y dydd.’ - Carwyn Evans

‘This collection of work created from materials such as wood, bone china and perspex - is a continuation of a number of themes that interest me. 'Lock-down' wasn't as productive as I had hoped - a lot of analysis in a time of self-doubt and loss of confidence as an artist. Fortunately, the 'Crate' project [TEN Winter exhibition] was a way of sparking the mind whilst trying to portray - in an abstract way - the rhythm of turning pages in a book or capturing the moment of seeing a page being turned in action - with the size of each component echoing one of the box' many facets. These are further extended here in similar and new shades. There's nothing quite like a brief to come out of a rut.

The titles of the bone china works come directly from Ryan and Ronnie's famous 'Ti a Dy Ddoniau / You and Your Talents' - a clear reminder to us all of the curiosity in others' talent. In this new collection, I set about backing the bone china pairings on specially-cast perspex pieces in a transparent peach colour. And with other circular pairings, they are set behind white perspex discs so that the background seems to break out of the form ... reaching out to something new. The title 'dew' takes on new relevance today... the long await for the day's sun.’ - Carwyn Evans
